Last week we had the chance to explore Phuket off the beaten path. We have been to Phuket before, but the last time we visited was a disaster. It was raining 3 days in a row, with a storm and floods as a great conclusion to our trip. This time we were lucky and had the best weather for all 3 days so we were finally able to explore Phuket.
Thailand has so much to offer, starting with golden temples, mouth-watering street foods and rounding it all up with beautiful landscapes and rich culture. Phuket is a known tourist destination, but we, as always, tried to get off the beaten path and explore it a little bit more in depth.
Explore Phuket off the beaten path
1 – We chased the sunset and ended up having a group of young Monks around us. The orange robes and the low sun provide a perfect ambiance. It would not be possible to capture these kind of moments if we would not had gone exploring Phuket off the beaten path.
2 – Kris made some friends at the beach. There was this Labrador who seemed to be looking for something in the water for hours. We got worried, as he looked so desperate. We thought that his owner has left in the sea and never came back. In the end, it turned out he was just amazing fishes and cooling down in the cool water.
3 – We saw so many baby elephants chained down and used as tourist amusement. We made a short video about how terrible is animal exploitation for tourism and how wrong it is. Link here to the video. It was heartbreaking.
4 – We visited several viewpoints in the 37 t. C heat, but it was well worth it. The crystal clear water and the boats passing by brings such a peace to the soul. In a hot day like this it’s even more struggling to go and explore Phuket off the beaten path than in any other day – just because it’s freaking hot outside.
Hopefully, you enjoyed our little photo story of a beautiful day we had and how to explore Phuket off the beaten path. Stay tuned for an in-depth blog post about What to do in Phuket and how to escape the tourist trail.
